We bought this 10 hectare Finca Miravalles in 2010 and over the following two years planted 7.5 hectares with teak. The rest consists of smaller patches of forest and riverside vegetation.

Properties of teak wood
The ideal time for harvesting teak trees is around the age of 20, as the wood only slowly increases in size after that. The logs can either be loaded into containers on the farm for export or sawn into square timber on site for the domestic or international market.

When calculating the profitability of an approximately 2.2 hectare teak plantation per hectare, we assume that 280-350 teak trees per hectare can be felled when they are 20 years old. With an average diameter of 30 cm and a usable length of 10-12 meters, these trees produce around 150-200 m3 of wood, one m3 of teak currently has a retail value of around US$1000-4000 in 2023.
