Orotina is a district and the capital of the Canton of Orotina in the Alajuela Province of Costa Rica. Its name, like that of the canton, is derived from the indigenous monarch King Orotina, whose dominions in 1522 apparently extended from Tivives Bay towards the interior.

Orotina, with around 10,000 inhabitants, is located 24 kilometers northeast of the port of Caldera (Océano Pacífico), in the catchment area of the Rio Grande de Tárcoles, 48 kilometers southwest of the capital of the province of Alajuela and 56 kilometers from the national capital San José.

On the Ciudad Colón-Orotina road (Ruta 27) it takes 45 minutes to get to the capital. The district is crossed by the following roads:
